After much anticipation, The Holiday has finally arrived. We’ve spent this Wednesday on the island of Koh Rong, in Western Cambodia. The Thai influence is very clear in the food - as demonstrated by this lovely Tofu Pad Thai eaten for lunch yesterday.
For dinner we made Thai green vegetable curry with aubergines and peppers, with steamed rice. It was good but not quite as good as I know Thai curry can be - somehow missing some of the flavour and richness. I used green curry paste, coconut milk, green peppercorn and thai basil for the flavouring.
Any good thai curry recipe you can recommend?
Last night we went to see a fantastic show at Sadler’s Wells: Nederland Dans Theater 2. A mix bill of 3 of their popular performances, it was both moving and light-hearted, always breath-takingly beautiful.
We had dinner afterwards in the little Thai restaurant around the corner, Lakorn: mushroom soup, vegetarian spring rolls, a red curry and a hot and sour aubergine stew. Definitely NOT breath-taking, this one won’t make it on the map… but it wasn’t bad enough to deflate our post-ballet enthusiasm!
Lunch of stir fried asparagus and oyster mushrooms, papaya salad and steamed rice from Benja, around the corner from work, with Manser and two new clients. A bit disappointing to be honest. There wasn’t a single vegetarian option in the mains (so ordered a side and a starter) and the food was quite bland. Given the quality of the Thai offering in Soho, Benja need to up their games!
Lunch with Julien at Busaba Eathai on Wardour St. We shared a sweet potato curry (with cucumber relish), phad phak (side dish of greens and corn), grilled aubergine salad with the funny white fungus. Topped by a ristretto from Flat White.
