Sample of BBH Wegan Wednesday-ers’ lunches today. We have three winners: Hummus Bros, Tibits and Mrs Marengo’s. All eaten separately and in front of emails but… Better than no lunch!
Friday Team lunch: Fatté Hommos from Yalla Yalla. Chickpea, tahini, cumin, garlic, olive oil and crushed pitta bread.
On this very rainy Sunday, we found comfort from Café Oto’s (apparently Britain’s coolest venue) Persian food counter. Run by Soli Zardosht it serves a small selection of homemade salads, snacks and one-pot wonders - and there’s always a vegan option. This time it was fava beans with hummus - very good but dare I say quite pricy at £7 a small pop.
Last week Ngaio gave me food envy when she came back with some avocado and hummus on wholegrain toast from Flat White. So I went to get my own this week, and it is TRULY a thing of beauty.

Breakfast bagel from the lovely Tina, We Salute You café just between Dalston and my house: toasted with home-made hummus, cucumber and dukkah on top. Dukkah is an Egyptian nut and spice mix: very healthy and delicious. Here’s a recipe from 101 Cookbooks.
I’m having a tough day. So I went for the ultimate, vegan comfort food this lunchtime: a big bowl of hummus topped with salad, extra tahini and scooped up into warm, and plentiful, pitta bread. Thank you Hummus Bros.

To try and counterbalance the blues of the end of the holiday, Tim and I went to Hummus Bros for lunch. I had mushrooms and paprika topping and Tim guacamole. But once back at the agency, Gabor delivered some very sad news. We were hoping our beloved Mrs Marengo’s closure was only temporary, but over the holiday it transformed into… a very non-vegan French restaurant selling cassoulet and lardons all around! Bad news for Soho vegans.
Boring, busy day lunch, grabbed from Waitrose where I was shopping for a hopefully more exciting supper (watch this space) - if they let me out of the office. Marinated artichoke, hummus (of course), vine leaves and baguette. They make good baguettes. And from what I can understand, they are a pretty responsible retailer. Basically, I love Waitrose.
I was hoping to be able to download these pics into a computer but it’s not happening in the foreseeable future. So here we go. Lunch: hummus-heavy lunch at workshop. Hummus sandwich, hummus salad and hummus crudités. Why not.
For lunch, I managed to lure Manser into Hummus Bros on Wardour St, and even into a vegan lunch (had to pay for it though). We had hummus with guacamole (Nic) and summer salad (me) with extra peppers and wholewheat pitta. A bit too tahini-esque as ever, but incredibly satisfying.
